Grain runout causes some to split out on impact

Len

Check for grain runout before mounting these on your arrows. A friend of mine had some of Osage that came apart when he hit a deer striking bone.

Bad workmanship

Wings cut extremely badly. Cuts splintered and flaky. No possible way to glue and get solid contact. Make your own - impossible for you to do worse

I would buy this product again

I purchased the Hardwood footing blanks to foot cedar shafts. It was the first time I used Osage orange for a footing. If given the choice I would not use Osage again. The wood grain is too stringy and is difficult to work with any consistency. I have been using Cherry for a few years and it is much easier to work with. I will be trying the walnut soon. The blanks themselves were read more very consistent and manufactured well, It was just a poor choice of material on my part. I would love to see more options on species. Blake Walnut, Purple Heart Etc. Etc.

Great fun making these

The guys at Three River did it again, I always wanted footed shafts and thought it would be hard to do, these blanks along with the footing jig made making footed shafts fun and easy. Thanks again guys

Just started making footed arrows this Spring (09). I find these footings easy to work with and am liking the results so far. I started out with a dozen walnut and since have ordered another dozen of the walnut and a dozen purplehart.

They don't match the jig

The saw cuts are not long enough to match the jig you sell. I had to lengthen them myself. Matching the kurf was problematic. A "+" cut works as well as an "x" and is apparently easier to do accurately. I won't be buying these again. Although the 2 footed ones were easier to modify.

The best way to make the splice to fit these to the shafts is with the four point footing jig on a router table.

I have shafts stained traditional cherry its a light brown, and was looking for a contrasting color, and i have plans for a red chestnut color and i would like to have a lighter color, would osage orange look good??

The color of your arrows is going to be all personal preference. 12 years ago

The color of your arrows is going to be all personal preference. The Osage will give you the most transacting color though.

What is the average grains per inch for the purple heart 4-wing foot blanks?

With these being a natural product there really is not an average weight. Each person will be taking off various amounts of material in the footing process. This makes it even harder to say how much weight you will end up with.

does adding a footed insert change arrow spine

Footing an arrow will not change the static spine of the arrow, 13 years ago

Footing an arrow will not change the static spine of the arrow, but can have an effect on the dynamic spine (in flight). Some people go up 5# in static spine when they foot a shaft.
