Hunting the Osage Bow Reviews

I am very happy I found this book.

This is a really good book. It is written as a, making a bow for a hunting trip story and a step by step instructional guide along the way. It's focus is on selfbows but a very cleaver and entertaining format. If you are interested in selfbows, this is one for your library. A lot of well explained detail and bowyer craft passed along. Don't miss this book, you'll be sorry you did. read more Ps: Don't miss Dean Torges' Video " Hunting the Bamboo Backed Bow" very good also and website "thebowyersedge.com" for bowyer's tools.

the author knows his bows and the technical aspect and specifics of making a an osage hunting bow are well organized, alot of sound reasoning on tillering and bow design.

If you're new, what this book don't have, likely ain't worth learning. I'm in my 70's and much like the average fella, I knew just about everything worth knowing before I was 20, or so I thought. After reading this book it's common to find that we really didn't know all that much afterall, did we? Extremely interesting, and very well written. A "pleasure read", for sure.

This is how to think bow making and its place in life.

More philosophy than knowledge

I ordered this book expecting to gain a wealth of knowledge on how to build bow, but after reading I was left with far too many questions unanswered. The book is written in a far too convoluted manner. Instead of writing the book in a way to get to the point and be informative, it is written in a colloquial style that is more suited for a novel. I did learn some relevant info on read more how to build bows, but this was after having to sift through a throng of the author's philosophical writing style. This book would be great if someone was looking for a fun, "novel-like" read, but not for someone looking to read the book and turn to use the knowledge. Honestly, if you are looking for the most information per page, go with the booklets sold on the site.

Grounding the Archer Hunter In Us

I purchased this book for one thing to get a better understanding on making a bow. I was surprised and pleased with the journaled style as well as the heart of the true archer hunter. At times it is hard to convey how we as bow hunters feel about our sport and committment to the woods. Dean, wrote those feelings better than most of use could.

Very informative and interesting book

Anyone from beginning bow makers to advanced can gain something from this book. Not only can you learn everything you need to know to make an exquisite self bow, there are also fun stories and other useful information. Even though the book focuses on the osage self bow, the information can be applied to any wood suitable for self bows. Definitely worth reading.
