Awesome Book!
I've been making bamboo arrows for a few years but felt I was missing something even though my arrows performed okay. This book introduced some concepts to me that frankly blew me away. There were important things that I knew nothing about. This book shows how to get great performance from your bamboo arrows and guides you thru the steps used by Asian cultures to produce beautiful… read more and deadly bamboo arrows. Truly a treasure trove of information and one that I totally recommend.
Even if you don't build arrows....
Even if you don't build your own arrows, this is a great little book. Based on the Koppedrayers' book on thumb-rings, I had some expectations for this book and they were met, if not exceeded. It covers the different plants, including cane, used for bamboo shafts; growing and caring for your own plants; shaft selection; preparation and working with bamboo; building the arrow; and… read more also a section on making fletching from raw feathers. Although there are some quite informational videos on the Web, they lack the Koppedrayers' additional comments on the subtilties and pitfalls of working bamboo, all based on their experiences. E.g. that bamboo can pop or explode like popcorn when heated and that the internal air must have a means to excape or the shaft will be ruined. I can't but highly recommend this book.
