Okay, but....
This is an okay target and it will last through about a thousand fieldpoint arrows from a light bow. My friends and I have bought a few of these and each one was stuffed differently with all sorts of foam or polystyrene 'garbage' items. We found that not any two are stuffed with the same stuff. One was filled with a hard foam product that made the arrows hard to pull out. Behind… read more the poly cover fabric is a cardboard box which will wear out, specially in the middle if you are accurate in your shooting. To extend the life of this product you can open the bag (it is stapled at the bottom) and replace the worn out cardboard layer; then duct tape it close. As an afterthought, I should have spent my money on Morrell's Yellow Jacket target. It has a better core and the bag cover is replaceable.
It works
It's a bit heavy and hard to hold which makes it difficult to move. It stops arrows but the layer of plastic fibres that make up the design on the front catches arrow tips and so they're dfficult to remove. Without something to prop it up it'll fall when shot by medium weight bows. My 50# knocks it clean off its feet but not so much the 25# one. Those are the cons, otherwise, it… read more just works as a target. Hit the bulls eye and you're done.
Great target!
I purchased this target for my younger brother who is seven years old. His bow has a draw of 15lbs and most of his arrows don't penetrate the tough exterior of this target that well. I plan on getting him some arrows with sharper tips instead of the mostly blunt youth arrows he currently has. I decided to fling one or two of my arrows into it, just to see if they would fly straight… read more through it or not. I use a Bear 50lb Recurvee and this target stopped my arrows very well. Most of my arrows with standard target tips never penetrated more than 3-4" of the target face. This target is now used by both me and my little brother. One side has four small targets ( side I use) and the other a large standard tournament style face (his side) Great Product!!!
You can use a 50# bow, but, this target is designed for bows less than 30 pounds. You will wear it out extremely fast using a heavier weight. You are better off going with the Yellow Jacket field point target. They are more expensive but, they will last a lot longer with your bow.
The target is rated for bows 30# and under. Can do it, but might get some pass thru shots.
The NASP Youth Archery Target is a fiber fill. Under heavy shooting conditions you may get 4 to 6 months. Under moderate to light shooting conditions about one to two years.
It is not required to have a stand for the NASP Youth Target as the bow weights it is rated to be shot at it normally do not have enough force to knock the target over. If you can put anything behind the NASP target though I would do it just as a precaution.
