If this were the first book I had looked at on bow making, I may feel otherwise. But after pouring over a friends' copy of the Bowyers Bible (I-III), this book leaves me grasping for more information. This book is a great primer to building traditional bows, however some of the methods and suggestions in the book strike a cognitive dissonance with the title. For instance, the read more "Bow Strings" chapter is almost entirely a discussion of using dental floss as bow string. There's scarcely any information about natural cordage and animal derived bow string. At the end of reading the book, I didn't feel much more empowered to be able to build different kinds of primitive bows. I did appreciate how the book opened up with bow anatomy and glossary, something that the Bowyer's Bible didn't do a very good job of. There is also some good information sprinkled around like "fistmell" All in all, I'm looking for another primitive bow making book

I'VE HAD THIS BOOK A COUPLE OF YEARS.I HAVE A HALF DOZEN HOW TO BOOKS NOW.THIS IS AS GOOD AS ANY.IT DOES NOT HAVE PHOTOS BUT REALLY BEING HONEST I'D SAY FOR THE MAIN PART THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE CLEARER THAN MOST BOOKS PHOTOS. ALSO THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE BIG.THERE'S A GOOD SECTION ON RECOGNIZING TREES BY THERE LEAVES.THERE'S A NEET LITTLE FEATHER JIG YOU CAN MAKE.IT SHOWS MANY STYLES read more OF PRIMITIVE BOWS. IT'S A GOOD READ.
