Well worth the price!

I bought this book nearly twenty years ago, and nearly had it falling apart. I bought two more, one to replace it and one for a gift. I have no idea how many bows I have made over the years, but I continue to reference this book. I still highly recommend it to the novice and experienced bowyers as well.

This is all I expected and more. If you want to build bows, you should read this book. It's going on my bench and it should be on yours as well. The wood species and the tillering information alone are worth the price.

An excellent resource

This book delivers- it'll tell you excatly how to build a solid hunting bow with but a few tools from a local tree. It isn't long or tedious, and does well in explaining how to build a solid American Flatbow.

I'm building an osage bow. Can I back it with 1/4" raw hide strips for additional strength? I will be placing them on the back side / side facing away with exterior carpenter glue.

You could back a Osage bow with rawhide for added strength. If you have followed a single growth ring for the back there is realy no need to back the bow with rawhide. If you are wanting to gain more poundage of the limbs with the rawhide it will not gain much at all.

I see no reason why rawhide strips shouldn't work. Just keep in 12 years ago

I see no reason why rawhide strips shouldn't work. Just keep in mind to butt them as uniformly as possible, and sand them all to a uniform thickness before finishing. Elmer's exterior carpenter's glue does a fine job, but don't be fooled by the "exterior" in the name. Give your bow a good waterproof finish. Most of all, take your time and have fun with it!
