For 20,000 years the bent stick and string has fascinated mankind. This original form of archery, without special features and modern technology, has been gaining popularity in the modern age. And the art of traditional bow building has also been rediscovered. In this engaging book experienced bow builders and practical archeologists describe the history, evolution, and construction of European style longbows. For beginners, clear, uncomplicated instructions are offered, including descriptions of construction techniques, tools, materials, and shooting styles. For advanced bowyers there are tips on choosing wood and adhesives, and explanations of the evolution/adaptation of bow design. Also included are precise dimensions for replicating historical bow types, from Stone Age bows to modern laminated longbows. This book also offers comprehensive instructions on how to properly test your newly built longbow, as well as a section on constructing your own arrows. 214 Pages, Hardcover Filled with Detailed Photos, Illustrations, and Diagrams Written by Flemming Alrune, Wulf Hein, Jurgen Junkmanns, Boris Pantel, Holger Riesch, Achim Stegmeyer, Ulrich Stehli, Konrad Vogele, and Jorge Zschieschang ...read more

This book is a work of art
I have found this book to be one of few books on the market today, that the authors have put their heart and soul into every page of this book. its very inspiring to read, it make me would to go out and make my bow straight away. so easy to follow and the help from the authors and editor's tips makes the book much better to understand and follow. l love the history bits. its good… read more to hear about the bow history and its long journey though time, and how its been apart of mans evolution as well. that helps the reader to under stand the task ahead. [the quote from the little prince.] very true, thank you. well done. its a great book indeed.
Lots of pictures!!!
The down fall to this book that I found was that it doesn't really go in depth on why you do the things the way you do and that everything is in metric, but still very informative. Combine this book with the Bowyers Bible volume one and you have the idiots guide to building bows (or building bows for dummies) which ever you prefer. lol.
It does not come with full sized patterns.
