So far this is the only finish I've used so I can't really compare it to anything, but aside from the price I can't say anything bad about it. I've used it on POC shafts as well as douglas fir and aspen (poplar) shafts I've made, as bare shafts or with various kinds of stains and acrylic paints, and it sticks to everything. It takes between 2 and 4 coats to get a reasonably smooth… read more finish, depending on the paint and how fine the shaft is sanded. It's easy to clean up and if it gets on anything it dries into this rubbery stuff that you can just peel off. I also kind of like the smell for some reason. I use it with the Big Dipper without the gasket. Protip: don't screw the cap onto the dipper all the way or else the finish will glue it on there and it will be a pain in the A to unscrew it next time you use it.
Good stuff. Dries hard and clear. Very durable too.
I bought this product so I could do a side-by-side comparison with my own creation of a mix of water and Minwax Polycrylic. In fact, the True North finish may very well be the exact same thing I created because the True North finish and the Minwax blend I mixed perform the same, which is great because it's a heck of a lot less expensive to make your own! You can make 4 quarts of… read more Minwax Polycrylic/water for the same price as one quart of the True North finish.
Yes you could use the Eco Dipper if you want. It can be brushed on or wiped on as well.
As long as it is airtight it should last a few months
It all depends on how thick you are putting the sealer on.
You could do it but it may not turn out as well as the free dipping method.
I would recommend duco cement with this sealer.
Yes this can be used over carbon arrows.
I have used these products on Easton Axis traditional shafts with excellent results. Use carbon prep first, then I use 2 coats of white before color of choice. I have used True North products on cedar, aluminum and carbon with great results on all. Finish with clear coat at end for nice looking protective finish.
I would not recommend using Fletch Tite Platinum on anything other than Bohning products.
Yes, the Fletch-Tite adhesive is compatible with all True North water-based paints and clear coats.
Yes, the Free Dip method is putting the finish in a 'tank' (Big Dipper is best item #5110X) and dipping the shaft in and letting any excess finish run off the shaft as it hangs to dry.
