Ace Classic Medieval Glue-On Points Reviews

Very nice points

Rob from NC

I shoot a 65# English longbow and was using modern arrows. I decided that I would learn how to make my own in a more 'medieval' way. Choose these points as close to bodkins but less likely to tear up my target. Got 1 dozen. They have worked great, good penetration, very consistent weight. They are a bit harder to get back Out of the target than standard field points, but that's read more my only negative thing I can say.

Very good bodkin points for creative anachronism events such as a Renaissance festival! Also, they happen to work very well with wood arrows for target shooting. These gave me a feel of how they were actually used. They work just as well as modern field points.

Fair alternative to field points

I got these to point my Tred Barta wilderness arrows. No problems with fitting and they work fine as a field point. They are not as "warlike" as some mediaeval points I have seen

GREAT!!!

It takes a bit to sand the shafts and get these to fit properly..BUT! I don't think I will go back to field tips again. After getting use to the larger/ heavier shafts, my aim is not that much of a difference.

Medieval points for an elf arrow

I added these to an order more or less as an afterthought with the idea that I would experiment with making an elf arrow (a la Legolas). I use 5/16" shafts because my horsebow is only 25# at 28". Turns out that even though these points are listed a being for 11/32" and 23/64" shafts they work just fine on 5/16" shafts. Just make sure you have enough hot-melt on the arrow to fill read more the 2.3 thousandths of an inch gap between the rear edge of the point and the shaft (i.e., don't worry about it). They look great have a sharper point than field points and work fine. They are a tiny bit harder to extract from a hay bale due to the profile, but hardly enough to mention. My next project will be with bodkins, both short and long.

Modern medieval

I found these heads to be the perfect upgrade to the "vanilla" field points folks typically use. These are machined, that is, turned, and the quality is high. I found that some did have nibs on the points but a touch up with a file took the nib off and I personally find them easy to file back to a point if I hit a rock. They look medieval with a nice patina but are easier on my read more targets than bodkins with edges are. you will need a proper taper tool to install these, so far I have only used 11/32 size. While not perfectly medieval, my SCA friends love these and they add alot of class to the high quality shafts I fletch. I also used them on crossbow bolts for the SCA and got alot of inquiries about them. The nice thing is that you can use them for stump shooting or rabbits they aren't just lookers.

I really like these points. As other have stated they chew up the target a bit more because of their round shape, but I honestly don't mind that. The weight isn't too bad either, unless you're really conscious about that. Could be shaped into a traditional bodkin shape if you had a grinder. I put mine on the Noggle arrows, look great.

I think these points are pretty good, they have shown me that you don't need the fanciest, most expensive arrows out there. Quite often i missed (my fault not the arrow's) and the point hit a rock, and blunted. I tried it out and it still shot straight. For those of you who want arrows that you can resharpend, these aren't for you, but if you're just doing archery for recreation, read more and you don't feel you need the best quality out there, these are right for you.

In the reviews for this product I saw several people say that hunting was one of the best uses. Are these points legal to hunt with? If so, what kind of game would they be effective with?

You will have to check each state individually for hunting laws. I would not recommend these points for anything larger than a squirrel or rabbit.

One should always check with your local game regulations to ensure that your equipment meets the requirements for both your given area as well as the type of game you are after. The classic medieval points are slightly more aggressive than the more modern field points and can be used in for target shooting applications. Due to their shape they do require more effort to remove from the target and create a larger entrance hole.

You could probably hunt squirrels and small game with them, but 11 years ago

You could probably hunt squirrels and small game with them, but they are almost certainly not legal for use on any kind of large game, and probably wouldn't be very effective either, especially compared to a broadhead.

I just bought these, and they look great; However, the 11/32 points will NOT fit flush to an 11/32 shaft. I don't know if they could be made to fit flush to the size shaft they are marked as. Rather, they fit slightly wider than the shaft once they are fitted to the taper. These are in keeping with the look of an actual medeival arrow point, which tended to be put on over the shaft. These points fly as well as any of the other styles of glue-on field points, and look better. If you want a bodkin-like point without the additional weight, these are for you.
