Mother Nature's glass, obsidian is a joy to knap and gives up its flakes readily. It is very brittle though and care must be taken when using percussion. Our obsidian is normally a natural clear black, sometimes highlighted with reddish streaks. Our obsidian spalls are on the small side more for arrow points than knives. (Although you could make a knife from some of the larger pieces.) They can vary from a couple inches to over four inches. Once I get better at knapping, I will attempt to make a knife blade to fit into a black bears lower jawbone.

I am not very impressed by this Obsidian.It likes to break when it gets close to being thinned.I am impressed by its beauty, however it does not make up for broken points.I would not recomend this product.P.S look at this finished flint point.

New to flint knapping, but these were great practice. Got 5 arrow points from one spall, but haven't had the chance to do much more, yet. Works very well to learn where, how hard, and striking angles to remove obsidian, to final sharpening and adjusting of the point edge. It's a great way to learn a fun pastime at a reasonable price.
