Step back into Medieval times and prepare for War! Bodkin points were commonly used by medieval English archers for target shooting and during battles. Cousin to the armor piercing long bodkin, the short bodkin could be produced in the mass quantities that wars demanded. The Long Bodkins, however, were typically held in reserve and used for piercing the tough defenses of armored knights. Rugged looking, but very functional. Design and material makes these short bodkins the strongest bodkins we offer. Designed in the historically accurate "square" shape for archers who appreciate attention to detail. Not to be used for combat archery. For these points to fit you must have a 5° point taper on your wood arrow. The Short Bodkin has a diameter of 11/32" and will fit arrows of 11/32" and larger. The larger arrow diameters will have some taper exposed, but the Short Bodkin will be seated properly on the 5° point taper. Sold by the 3-pack. SHORT BODKIN
THESE ARE TRUE BODKINS.SHORT BODKINS ARE FOR PIERCING PLATE ARMOUR.LONG BODKINS ARE FOR MAIL. IF I LIVED IN 1250 A.D. I'D HAVE USED THESE IF I COULD HAVE GOT THEM. THESE BODKINS ARE REALLY FIELD POINTS AND CAN BE USED AS SUCH.THEY WILL DO NO MORE DAMAGE TO A 3D TARGET THAN A FIELD POINT.IT IS JUST THAT THEY HAVE A SQUARE CROSS SECTION RATHER THAN A ROUND ONE.I PUT THEM ON PORT ORFORD… read more TAPERED SHAFTS WITH 5" SHIELD FEATHERS.THEY KIND OF LOOK ---MODERN MEDIEVIL.USE PLENTY OF HOT GLUE TO KEEP THEM ON.WITH A ENGLISH STYLE LONGBOW IF I CANT IT OVER ABOUT 30 TO 45 DEGREES DEPENDING ON WHERE MY FEET ARE AND GET OVER THE ARROW IT SHOOTS PRETTY GOOD.BOTTOM LINE IF YOU LIKE PLAYING AGINCOURT GET SOME. I want more of these!
A bit hard to get on the shaft but not difficult..just takes longer. The results are shown when you shoot them! Slower than the 5/16 I am use to but the difference is in the hit. They hit like a led mini ball form a black powder rifle. I want to get more to replace my field tips in 5/16".
Short bodkin points
very well made reminds you of long ago feel like robin hood with these
Effective against fenceposts and knights
These replica bodkin arrwoheads are a fantastic deal for what little you pay. While I can tell that they were most likely machine-manufactured, it doesn't make them any less fun and hardly detracts from the historical value at all. I used these on 3/8" oak dowels for replica warbow arrows and found them to be perfect, despite the heavy heads and shafts. Even with my smaller 35#… read more longbow, which I will admit I am not the most proficient with, I was drilling targets and making satisfying hits with these heads. Now here's where things got interesting: I missed a shot (surprise, surprise!) and sent an arrow with one of these heads on it into a solid hardwood fencepost. From 50 or so paces away, I put at least 7/8" of that arrow into the post, straight-on. Keep in mind, this was with a very light bow. The only thing I could nit-pick is that when I used a lighter to heat the head after gluing it to the shaft, it tended to scorch quite easily, though this was fixed with a wet cloth and some elbow grease. If you're looking for a reenactment or target arrow, or just want to add a little flair to your 3D shoots, pick these bodkin heads up. They're a steal for the money, perform better than I could have hoped for, and made my shoots that much more fun.
French mail doesn't stand a chance!
Awesome reproduction of a deadly arrow point, well balanced and accurate, the French are running scared!
Good product!
Good product, will buy again but they will not fit 1/2" shafts like advertised. It would be nice if the socket was bigger. But overall I love them!
Amazing !
i got these a few days ago so that I could have arrows to match up with my medival huntsman english type longbow and they work amazingly well
I would not recommend using these for hunting.
They would work against small game and birds smaller than ducks, may take a duck but that wold be pushing them.
You could use them for small game and birds. They are designed to pierce armour. Use a broad head for large game. Please update email to
Bodkins are designed to penetrate armor so their shape is good for splitting rings in mail or punching holes through wrought iron plate. The short bodkin shape is particularly strong. However, they were not intended for hunting since they do not create large wounds. They relied on precise targeting of vital points and the fact that being skewered to your armor would seriously inconvenience your fighting ability. Quick kills were not a priority since a wounded soldier was just as bad as a dead one. Their high penetration would make them bad for small game too since they would just keep on going after passing through the animal losing themselves in the brush. Stump shooting would result in arrows imbedded in the target and hard to get out. Shooting at targets is a good use and so is shooting at improvised targets meant to resemble armor. For example, they make neat square holes in old abandoned car doors. This depends on the power of the bow. Heavy bows do more damage, but make it harder to pull the arrows out. I hope this helps. The Grain weight and length.
The short Bodkin Medieval Glue-On Arrow Points are suitable for most target shooting, and they hit harder and penetrate better than standard modern field points. They are easily withdrawn from most targets, except self-sealing, because the head is much larger than the shaft -- however, it's best to ask the target marshal prior to use, as their aggressively square shape can tear up soft targets. Long Bodkins penetrate maille, wood, and some light plate armor. They can completely pass through some targets, especially foam. Hope this helps. Tom A.
I do not know from actual experience because I have not used the long bodkin. I would assume the penetration would be better with the long bodkin since it has a longer taper and is 190 grains, as opposed to the shorter taper and 125 grain weight on the short. Both are "hollow ground" on all 4 faces.
Rob, There are several variables. Into hard targets, the short bodkins penetrate better. So they are good for sheet metal and hardened leather. Into softer targets like butted mail, the long ones give good performance. I think it depends on whether the point has to push its way through a layer of material like a metal sheet or a fabric like a padded coat. The longer bodkins seem to generate more friction in the target, while the shorter ones tend to peel metal back neatly. In my experience they both flew well and were equally accurate. The shorter ones were a little more robust and easier to pull out of tree stumps.

Yes, you can mount these points on a 5/16 shaft.
The difference is the design they are made out of the same steel.

These heads will have a standard 5 degree taper. Any of our taper tools will work for these points. We do not offer a heat compression tapering tool.
I can't answer the last one, but the standard Traditional Only Taper Tool should work just fine, as it did for me.
