I can finally use my Great Northern quiver!
I can finally use my GN quiver to full capacity. I didn't like it when I bought it a couple of years ago because I can't use all of its capacity in its original configuration, there was no easy way to load the 2 arrows closest to the riser without broadheads catching on everywhere. It certainly wasn't easy in a treestand trying to snake the arrow in without moving too much. I… read more still think it sits too low, the nocks jam into the ground if you try to lean it against something. I would like to see the bottom kick back arm sold separately, it's easy to swap it out and would either eliminate the nock issue or at least reduce it. I don't even remember it the kick back version was available when I bought this one, if I had know of the access and overhang I would have tried that version first. The GN quiver is highly regarded on archery forums and is often recommended for Bear bows but it doesn't work very well with the old 3 up, 2 down version gripper. It's much lighter than the Fred Bear leather 4 arrow quiver I've been using on my takedown. That one seems to have been discontinued. The gripper on it sucked for carbon arrows, I'd have to spit on the arrow to pop it back in. Bottom line is this gripper improves the functionality of the GN quiver for me, but it's still not perfect. I'd recommend a Selway before a GN. I've used a slide-on version on my Martin Hunter for years and it is light, solid, quiet and has been very durable. Bought another Selway slide-on for my Bear Super Kodiak and I may just use it on my takedown also. The Selway feels so solidly mounted and holds the arrows so well in the gripper, I feel no need to remove it in the stand. I lay it quiver down in my lap. They're so simple and no parts to lose or forget. The GN does allow the quiver to be removed while strung if you need to, but the little rubber washers tend to come off the mounting screws when removing it. It's not fun watching one disappear as it falls into the leaves underneath you.
