17" Longbow Riser Blanks Reviews

Probably my last time ordering these

Moostache

I didn't want to be too harsh because I've used a few of these and it produced some really beautiful and functional bows. Unfortunately, while I appreciate having some fun, exotic woods to choose from, the prices for these are out of control. It seems like you are paying way extra for 3 Rivers to 'precision cut' them, but it's just a quick notch taken out with a bandsaw. Save read more the money and purchase these pretty woods from some other lumber source for a fraction of the price and cut it yourself. It's just handle and tip material so it isn't something you should pay so much more for. For this price, you could get enough lumber elsewhere to use on 10 bows instead of just one.

Product was not at all precision cut. I could have done a better job with a handsaw after a carton of booze. Fade outs are uneven and not complete as it does not fade to paper thin. The thickness at the ends of the taper leave a large gap when dry fitted before glue up.

Good Product

I used the Zebra Wood riser on a 64" Laminated longbow using 2 pieces of 0.50 Black glass, 2 pair of Action Boo Lams, 1 pair Bacote, 1 pair Zebra Wood, and 1 pair of Butternut Lams. The fades were cut out almost perfectly, it just took a little fine sanding to square everything up and your ready for glue-up! The Zebra Wood Riser looks great and I used the cut-outs for tip overlays. read more The Zebra Wood looks phenominal with a clear coat finish. Using this pre cut riser anyone can build a great looking bow with minimal headache! Thanks Again to 3 Rivers Archery!

Looks great stained dark or unstained.

I used the zebra riser and it looks great. Zebra wood is very dense so it will make your blade on your saw dull but its worth it. It looks great either with a dark stain or unstained and dark limbs.

This is a great riser.

I used the zebra riser and i loved the finished product. It looks great stained really dark, or what I did, unstained with dark lams.

A great product, although it would be nice to see some laminate options to mix things up a bit.

As it sounds like you do not have a lot of material in the riser 14 years ago

As it sounds like you do not have a lot of material in the riser to risk cutting into I would suggest building a shelf out from the handle section. You can do this by wrapping leather over a bump of just about anything you want to represent your shelf (could be just a smaller piece of leather. You can also shoot off your knuckle using it as a shelf. I would recommend getting a bow glove: http://www.3riversarchery.com/SCA%2DMedieval+SCA+Gloves+%26+Tabs++Hawkwood+Bowglove_c53_s252_p0_i4002X_product.html Backing a bow is a great idea and Bamboo is a very popular choice. It adds speed and durability to just about any bow.

This riser would be able to take a center cut but would be careful about cutting past center.

These risers will work for a 55# R/D longbow. Depending on how much reflex that you are going to put into the bow you may need to radius the back of the riser to fit your form since it is currently flat.

These risers are flat. If you are looking to make a R/D bow, you will have to use these risers and bend the limbs in a way that does not change the center section too much, although the fade out ends are flexible to some degree.
