Easy install
Easy to install on my Howard Hill longbow with a straight low wrist grip. I cut it patterned on the leather grip I'd removed from the bow. This product went on nicely, using the stretching quality to reach a near perfect fit. I wrapped the finished result with an old ACE bandage to apply an even pressure over night to help the leather form completely to the riser shape. Thicker… read more than the Hill factory leather grip, it has a slight cushioning affect absorbing felt vibration. Time will tell about durability. I'm going to apply mink oil before too long against moisture. I shoot about 1000 arrows a month. We'll see........
Works as Intended
I cut this into strips and put it onto my samick sage. Great for making the bow my own and works as intended. Comfortable and has not started to deteriorate at all yet and has been shot and hiked with a lot.
Perfect for arrow rests and plates.
It should last a long time used as a rest and plate. After hundreds of shots, it shows no wear. It's good leather. And enough to make dozens of rests and plates. Excellent value.
Great product, many uses
able to make my own rest strike plates, grip If I want...
The brown is much darker than pictured
This is a nice product but the piece I received is a VERY dark brown, not at all like the brown in the picture.
Arrow rest n plate
Having most of the times problems with most of arrow rests n plates and considering a previous reviewer's idea İ used this product as an arrow n rest plate. The result is absolutely super. As it is a very big piece for this purpose, your piece is exactly as big (or small) as per your choice, the rest can be used on several other bows. After shooting over 1000 arrows it is still… read more as newly set on my bow and it is silent.
Worked fine both times
I've used these twice, for bows that came with a simple wood grip that seemed a bit small. Each time I put a narrow leather shim on the belly side of the wood grip and wrapped this product all the way around, overlapping on the back side of the grip. Feels perfect!
Update- this product is awesome
Update May 15,2012..I cannot beleive how well this leather works for a side plate and rest! Helen shoots at least 1000 shots per week..She is still using the first rest and side plate I put on her bow back in January 2012. I have put it on 3 of my bows so far..as a hunter I'm really picky about noise on the draw. I am happy with the performance and quietness of this material.
Perfect for rests, long lasting
For the last 4 years I have been making my own rests and side plates from a manmade material. It worked good but it just didn't last as long as leather. My fiance Helen shoots at least 5 days per week and well over a hundred arrows per pratice session..she was wearing out my homemade rests and side plates quickly..well I was tired of replaceing them, I Bought a piece of this adhesive… read more backed leather (and some other items) and it still looks great after about 2000 arrows! I thank you for the quick shipping, I ordered it late in the day and had it in 3 days. thanks, Robert
Yes , it can be removed , you may need some acetone to remove the adhesive from the grip .
Yes, it peals off easily. After you put it on though, let it set for a while before using your bow or it will peal off easily before you want it to.
This will work well with that riser. You may need to trim it as you put it on the grip.
I do not believe any of us have tried that.
Yes, it will work. However, you will have to get the pattern correct and then cut it to shape. It will be a little different then the original as the originals were "skived" and you probably won't be able to do that with this since it has the adhesive back.
I see no reason why it would not work on a Bear 59 Kodiak. If you are trying to authenticate the collector value of the great recurve, I would do more research before putting on this leather, however, if the purpose of the bow is to use it, I would not hesitate using this leather either lacing it or just glueing it or both. Unfortunately I cannot elaborate how a proper fit could be realized with a recurve style grip since I am only familiar with a straight grip longbow which was a simple process to install this leather. Hope this helps and good luck. Frank
Yes... Good luck Joseph
The dark brown
The one I obtained was the darker brown. Frank
It is Dark Brown Joseph Kizer
The Bow Grip Leather is around 1/16" thick. If you were to just lightly put this grip on you may be able to pull if off if needed, But it will depend on how well it sticks to your bows finish.
I got the brown leather, which I would assume is the same as the black and it is 1/16" thick. As far as pulling it up goes, I can pull it off mine with no problem but I put it on a Quinn Stallion so it's an aluminum riser. I don't see it being a problem to pull off of wood though. I stitched mine on just for looks, but I'm sure you could remove it if you don't like it.
Looks to be 1/16" thick, definitely not 1/8" thick. Have not used it yet...but I'm guessing once on, you could not take it off to re-stick or re-adjust. That's just a guess though.
Kelly I have not used it yet. But I can tell you this it is for sure the thinnest piece of leather I have found for my upcoming handle work on my Kodiak. So as far as pulling it off and trying again I can't say, but my guess would be if you only had it on either part way and not firmly attached I bet you could one time re use it, but that is just my opinion. The best way to get a piece is to harvest a deer and have the hide tanned. If not then you may want to check with a custom leather worker.
