BCY's B55 is a durable, 100% high-performance polyester string material. (Polyester is the kind of material the old slower "Dacron" was made from.) This new low-stretch polyester is faster than ever, but still safe to use on any bow, new or old. This is the perfect string to get better performance than standard Dacron without any chance of harming the bow. Each ¼# spool holds approximately 1,100 feet. Each 1# spool holds approximately 4,300 feet. ...read more

Nice quality.
Works great along with the Browning serving thread.
Negative experience with B55 for older recurve
I bought a spool of B55 hoping, per the BCY literature, to add a few FPS to my older non-fast-flight-ready recurve. BCY made it clear that it worked with ALL recurves, so I felt confident it would be ok. I made a string with B55, the product feels very much like B50 when making strings, it comes pre-waxed, the colors are good for traditional archery. However the string I made didn't… read more work at all with the older recurve for which I had made it. The B55 string had almost no give and a huge amount of vibrations. The bow was a Ben Pearson Lord Mercury, with the mercury capsules still intact, so it's normally a bow that is extremely well dampened and very forgiving, but with the B55 I felt I was shooting a longbow, not a recurve, with tremendous hand-shock and vibrations. I stopped after about 6 shots because I was seriously worried about damaging my bow. Too bad, I really wanted to get a bit more speed. BCY says that B55 is fully compatible with ALL recurves, but that was definitely not my experience, unfortunately.
My husband hated this bowstring material
He was unable to make a decent bowstring because it kept stretching.
Great String
This is wonderful material for building a bowstring with!!
So far so good
I recently started making my own Flemish twist strings for my recurves. There has been a little learning curve as how to accommodate for stretch, but this is due to my inexperience not the products quality. I've found it to be easy to work with quiet shooting and makes a good looking string! I'm pleased with it and will definitely buy more as needed.
I would buy this product again and again.
Great product. Made my own flemish loop with this stuff and it came out great. Would recommend having extra wax. A+ so far.
Slow
I tried this as a replacement for Brownell Dacron, using 16 strands for my 60# & 45# Elm/glass longbows. I found that even pre-stressed endless loop strings had more stretch than the old dacron, (though I won't dare to test theese old worn ones now) A 12-strand FastFlite string cast an 520 gn arrow a full 50 fps faster(!)
Great for a new string maker
Used many strings in 35 years of shooting. Now making them gets me exactly what I want. This material is so affordable, you wonder why you should buy a made string. Very strong and not nearly as stretchy as B50. Some say it stretches and I don't get it. 1st string I made, I used a recipe of another and shortened the length to accommodate the stretch. I was very surprised after… read more a week on a stretcher, It had only moved about 3/8" and has held very close to that since. The stretch is very acceptable to me and easy to compensate during the building process. I found with 14 strands and Diamondback .018 serving, I get the magical .110 ish zone for perfect nock tension. This was the hardest part to figure out in string making. With X amount of strands, what serving Diameter do you use to get the .110 serving thickness. No one wants to say it as there are a few variables. Follow the above and you will be in the zone from what I experienced. All in all, you can use the stronger FF products with even less stretch but at a higher price. For the beginner, I can make a lot of string with this product and still have acceptable stretch.
That is just the amount of string material. A 1/4# would be plenty unless you plan to build a lot of strings
You would just add them to the cart for each color.
Royal Blue
It's a nice medium blue. Definitely not light
Yes you can mix the materials since they are very similar. They are safe on all bows.
Yes you can use this string material on the Grizzly. This material does preform slightly better than standard dacron.
The Green, Tan, and OD Green are going to best match the color scheme of the Camo Hunter arrows.
About 366 yards.
Yes
Yes, B55 string is fine for primitive bows and self bows. That is all I shoot and I've made strings for friends who shoot English longbow. No problem. Sent from my iPhone
Yes, this is the best option for bowstrings for self bows.
The B55 is completely safe for ALL types of bows. It is all that I use on my longbow and recurve bows which are not fastflite or astroflite compatible
I shoot primitive and self bows exclusively. I have had no problem with string from 12 to 18 strands.
This material is similar to Dacron B50 in its properties. There is no reason I can find for concern in this regard.
There is really no guide that I am aware of, but for bows under 50# 14 strands is usually recommended. After that they increase between 15 and 18 strands for bows up to 70#
B55 has about the same tensile strength as Brownell B50. I use about 20 strands for my 100+ lb crossbow prods and about 14-16 for most other strings up to about 45# draw.
i like to go with 18 or 21 strands, it's quiet, easy, on the limbs , fits the knock snug, and easy on the finers, lasts a long time..three bundles of 6 or 7.
