Would this be strong enough to use as arrow nock reinforcements for a bow pulling 85lb @ 35"? I'm thinking of using half-inch ash shafts.

Yes, but they are 1/4 inch thick in my opinion and the horn is difficult to cut. Use purplewood instead.

Thought I'd answered this, but wanted to concur with the other answer. They are absolutely strong enough for nock inserts, but are actually 1/4" thick (or, to be 'fair', .24 inch). They require a lot of reduction to be usable at the desirable 1/8 or 1/10 inch thickness using a self-nock jig , so a lot gets wasted in difficult smelly and messy ways. If you're good working with horn, get the block instead. Black walnut also looks just like horn and is much easier to deal with. Also, 1/2 ash is a LOT of arrow, and unnecessary under much heavier poundage than 85 at 35. I've got a 90# at 31" that loves 70# ash in 11/32.
