If new to archery and you are in good physical shape, we recommend for just backyard shooting 35 or 40 pounds in weight. If looking to hunt you need to check your local regulations for bow weight requirements. 45# is our most popular weight, but that is with folks with some archery experience (as the muscles take a bit to get used to pulling the weight).
My understanding is it is a board bow, but the bowyer knows how to work them for following the grain. I would not classify this as a Hill Style bow though. It is not the proper shape of limbs (though straight limbs like a Hill).

These bows are well made I have not heard any negatives on this bow. The accuracy will be on the shooter, if you've never shot a bow like this it can be very different compared to a laminated fiberglass longbow.
This bow has a very small shelf cut into it. It may be difficult to shoot only from the hand with this bow.
