Great shelf / rest material
Bought these to use on the longbows I build. Easy to trim / fit / apply. Didn't need additional glue / barge cement. Enough material to do the rests / back plates on at least two bows. Out of 1 pc , I've already done 2 bows and should have no problem getting 2 more out of it. That includes both rest and back plate. Recommended and will buy again.
I like it. But...
I like the product but the grain of the hair lays straight if you make the square a diamond shape, wich now you only get like half the use of it. I still can get one more use of it.
Nice, but I have a couple of concerns
I bought this for my recurve bow and it serves well, but is a little too short for the shelf. It needs at least a 1/4" more in length. Also the square of material was cut on the bias, meaning the hair was diagonal to the arrow shelf. This material supposedly is enough for more than one shelf, but it is cut just too small so you have to cut so the hair is diagonal. It could be… read more a lot better.
Calf hair rest
Very duralbe and quiet. I like it better than any of the rug rests.
Well made but not as quiet as sealskin
The best alternative to seal skin available but not quiet as good.
"easy and effective"
I used this calf hair as a rest and strike plate on 2 recurves and 1 long bow. I used it to replace rug style rests and leather strike plates. All the bows shoot faster and more quiet. Works excellent as a silencer on recurve limb string grooves eliminating string slap. As always my thanks to 3 Rivers for selling quality archery products.
That would be a bit different than expected, but it would still have enough surface area for cutting a rectangle arrow shelf, and the side plate can be as unique as you like. A triangle is most common shape though. Only need enough to cover the spot where the arrow contacts the riser. So if the shelf has an arc, it only needs the area at the crest of the arc where the arrow lies.
It looks like we are out of the leopard pattern.
