Fred Bear Takedown Recurve Bow Reviews

A True Classic

Seeker

Received a Bubinga/Phenolic B riser with 45 lb #3 limbs about two weeks ago. I draw to 30.5 inches and it is extremely smooth with the #3 limbs, very impressed. The finish and look of the bow are top notch. The design is a classic which has stood the test of time and the no tool required takedown is slick. I saw many online comments regarding Bear quality not being what is used read more to, but my bow is top quality in every way and I will not hesitate to buy another Bear product. When drawn it did make clicking noises. A quick online search revealed many with the same issue and an easy fix of string wax on the pressure points, where the limbs contact the pockets. Problem solved, no more clicks. The 50th anniversary handle is very full, what I would call "chunky." I listed this as a con, but it is more of a "be aware." I can use the grip with no issues and do not mind the feel, but it is the biggest grip of all my bows and I can see some folks not liking it. Overall a great product, very happy with the purchase.

Love this bow...right up until the limb split!

Love this bow. I've never shot better so far with any other bow. I felt 100% confident that with this bow I could take a turkey at 30 meters right up until the upper limb split open. My Bear Ausable has seen over 1000 shots in less than a year and still going strong. My Southwest Archery Spyder XL has held up with more over several years. I would expect better or at least on read more par quality to cheap imports out of something at this price point and made in USA. I challenge Bear to prove me wrong.

Will probably buy another one if

Got the bow after 6 months order. Ecstatic to shoot it. The attachment system snap in place with a satisfying click, No rattling you can tell the tolerance was tight. The draw curve was smooooth as butter, I was very surprised, Much smoother than my super kodiak Black phenolic 64 inch I owned. Both were 50 pounds I draw 28.5 inch. I also own a few Top of the line Olympic limbs From read more Hoyt velos , W&W Wiawis. These limbs feels different but just as smooth. I almost prefer the draw curve on these limbs over the hoyt velos. Very surprising considering they are just maple and fiber glass. A lot of that, I would imagine is due to limb designs and limbs mounting orientation. Arrow speed is noticeably faster than my black widow for same poundage. And no less accurate, BW bows known for their forgiveness . I slapped the string on with no nocking point and the arrow just go where I point my bow at 20 yards, group really well. Arrow used gold tip trad 400 full length 100gr insert with 125 gr point. Little bit on weak side but that's what I use. No porpoising no paradox, whisper quiet. I had the 2012 60inch super K with action wood riser, loved that bow Put thousands of arrows through that bow. This bow is 3 times smoother and arrow speed seems faster. The thumb groove was sufficiently deep some bear bow, the riser Throat just too thick and not enough cut out on the the thumb side also lacking in palm swell area. This horn riser is amazingly cut and deep throat grip feels like a custom made riser. Medium to high wrist grip which is preferable. I know some people prefers low wrist for more consistent grip but that's a debate I prefer not to get into. Just 1 big but! My riser came with a hair line crack at the Top portion of sight window. It causes the maple accent line to be crooked will upload photo. Extremely disappointed in Bear QC. Good news is 3 rivers willing to help resolve the issue.

It is tough to say when we will get more of these. Bear is not giving us any time frames right now. Backorders are basically first come first serve so if theres someone with an order older than your the riser would fill the oldest order first. Once it gets to you the product will stay here with your order until the other part comes in.
