The Magyar bow is inspired by the warrior-archers of the same name. The Magyar were the original Hungarian people, renowned for their horsemanship and archery. Because of their skill with the horse bow, at one point in history these great warriors controlled more territory than the French, being the third greatest power in Europe. Now you can harness that great empire-building power with the Magyar Sport. ...read more

Excellent quality & smooth draw
Solid bow, minimal twist, very little hand shock, no sound and very well made. Grip is a bit narrow for my hands and I had to tape up a palm swell to grip it properly to perform Kathra correctly. Bow is a bit heavy but performs very well. FYI Kassai updated the Magyar in 2002 and refined it, it's now called the Magyar Sport Raven. This is that Raven refinement bow.
Beautiful bow and a pleasure to shoot
My son purchased this bow for me as an early Father's day gift. It has quickly becoming my favorite bow. The bow was well packaged and includes a bow sock which was a nice surprise. I have the 50# model and shoot with 3 finger draw. Which at my draw length is probably around 45#. This bow is extremely quite and if string puffs were added would be almost silent. The bow is beautiful… read more and well worth the price.
I would buy this again
I just received this bow as an early Fathers Day gift from my son and I absolutely love it. I have shot longbow and recurve for years and wanted to try something new. this bow is beautiful straight out of the box. it comes with a sock for storage which was a nice surprise. The bow is easily strung up using the step through method, and draws smother than my 60" longbow. I am planning… read more on learning the traditional Mediterranean style thumb release, however this bow shoots like a dream with the three finger style as well.
Great bow!
It is definitely a great bow. I just started about a year ago and this bow works perfect for me. With practice I became better with it but at first it was hard getting used to because I am used to recurve bows with a shelf. Fun to shoot and gets lots of compliments from others while at the range about its design and craftsmanship. I am just over 6ft tall and the size of the bow… read more is perfect and easy to carry. *Side note, My friends I go shooting with get jealous about all the compliments I get at the range while their bows go unnoticed.
Work of art
This bow is gorgeous. I had been hunting for a high quality traditional recurve that I could fire using the thumb release, and this bow is perfect. Prior to this bow I was using a cheap 40# Chinese-made horse bow for practice, and when I got this Kassai I could not believe the improvements. Even though my Magyar Sport is rated at 47#, the draw and release are much easier than on… read more my old 40#. Besides that, after you've figured out the thumb release, the bow is dead accurate (I have never used western release, so can't speak to that). I love it, and consider myself fortunate to have found it.
I will recommend this to a friend.
I purchased this bow as a new off hand shooter.I was amazed at how easy it was for me to pick up this new way of shooting . As my friends that shoot off hand told me it would take me some time to get use to. The smooth draw and release was amazing. The Leather work on the bow is seamless and precise. With in a few hours i was grouping on target. The bows design is exotic yet powerful.… read more My father saw the bow for the first time two days after i bought it, and was amazed at the exotic look and power it had. Every one that looks at this Magyar bow asks me what kind of bow is that and were did i get it. I simply say its a blast from the past. And 3Rivers is one of the pleases to get one. I have been surching for a dealer in the states for over three monthes, trying to deside on where i would purches from. 3Rivers is the plase fore sure. It also being a Lajos Kassai bow make it well worth it. Lajos Kassai is a hungarian archer/horse archer and boyer. He is the guy that put 12 arrows on target in 18 seconds from horse back. The product has a reputable name to back the quality of the bow and craftsmanship. This bow is amazing.
An object of functional beauty.
I have wanted one of these bows for a very long time and was happy to find it at 3Rivers, as getting them directly from Hungary is difficult and expensive. It is a strikingly beautiful bow, with the deep heritage of Hungarian horseman. Incredibly smooth, and accurate, though shooting "off hand" is a new challenge which I am enjoying very much.
Magyar Sport
The Magyar sport is the prototype horse bow of Mr.Kassai Lajos according to Mr. Edwin Gilbert. It is, again according to Mr. Gilbert, the one that Mr. Kassai uses when putting on a demonstration of horse archery. I have had three bows by Mr. Kassai. Two of them Magyar Sports of different draw weights, and the third is, once more according to Mr. Gilbert, an improvement on the Magyar… read more Sport named the Raven, which is essentially the same bow but a bit broader in the limbs. I have been using these bows exclusively since 2004 and love the way they handle (I no longer need a brace on my left forearm because I hardly ever get slapped by the string). One reviewer stated that these bows are inaccurate. I beg to differ with that statement. The fact that you shoot off of your knuckle [no arrow rest or cut out in the handle] does not help with archer's paradox at all, and makes them a bit more difficult to master. But once you learn the technique you'll be surprised at how accurate these bows really are! I can consistantly group a flight of six arrows in a four inch circle @ 20 yards using the gap shooting method and a five inch circle A 28 30 yards. Of course as I stated earlier, it takes time, patience and practice, practice, pratice, because, for me at least, when I started it was a whole new experience.
Great bows
I own several horse bows including the models sold at 3Rivers. I find them very accurate and have out shot bowmen with high end compounds at 40 yards, including balloons blowing along the ground. The key is practice, well matched arrows (the bows are spine sensitive) and smooth release.
Great product
This is really a great bow.
It is in part of the design of the bow. The noches will be slightly deeper than what is pictured.
Yes it will still perform well, it may require a different arrow due to the shelf
You won't be upset, but if speed is you goal go with the 55#. The company that makes the bow is kassai look them up . I could not find them any were else but here at. 3 rivers. They go all the way up to 110# draw.
Yes, they are rated at a 30" draw length.
Yes , this bow is designed to shoot from horseback . The shorter length gives you the ability to maneuver on a horse .
These are made in Hungary
The limbs are fiberglass.

With off the knuckle bows it depends on where you grip the bow. Since there is no shelf you can hold the grip in a different spot if you dont find one that is easy to be consistent. A nocking point will help with consistency as well but you have to grip the bow in the same spot every time for your nocking point to help.
Yes we do have replacement strings for this bow, although every day our inventory is growing we don't have every bow there is to offer

This bow is designed for the step through method any traditional stringer does not work on this type of bow
First FYI, 3Rivers sells this bow as the "Magyar Sport Horse Bow" but to my knowledge Kassai no longer produces the Magyar Sport. What is sold here is the Kassai Raven. In any case, I don't use a stringer for this type of bow. I string mine in the traditional way that Kassai himself does as depicted in his book "Horseback Archery" (2002). Here's how to string this bow if you are right handed: Hold the unstrung bow upright in your right hand by the top siyah (that's the solid wood "ear" with the string nock). The string should be nocked in the lower siyah with the free end of the string in your left hand, grasping so that some of the top loop if free and open. Grasp the top siyah in your right hand below the nock but above the wrap, with the siyahs curving to the right. Hold the bow and the string so they make a V with the string on the left and the bow on the right, still curving rightward. Take a half step forward through the V with your right leg. Angle the bow behind the right leg and in front of your left leg so the bottom siyah hooks in front of the left leg's shin. So now you should be standing with the bow threaded between your legs. The grip of the bow should be pressing into the back of your upper right thigh and the top siyah is resting in the palm of your right hand. Push forward with your right hand, bending the bow. There should only be three points of contact between your body and the bow: your left shin on the lower siyah, the back of your right thigh with the grip, your right hand with the upper siyah. No part of your body should be touching the bow limbs. Push forward with your right hand. Bend the bow only as far as you need to bring your left hand with the top string loop to the right hand's siyah. Slide the loop over the tip of the siyah and into the nock point. Ease off with your right hand so the string holds the bent bow. Take your right leg out of the bow and check the knock points before you start shooting. Enjoy. Lœfty Wałkowiak <****@***.***>
The string lenght is approximately 49-49 1/2 inches long depending on brace height.
