Great bow!

I have only had this bow for a couple of days and already love it! It is accurate and a heck of a lot of fun to shoot. It's very light weight and easy to maneuver. This is my first recurve and am looking at getting the slick stick hybrid longbow. So much fun! I wasn't planning on dear hunting with it this year but if my groupings continue to stay consistent, I will.

Great bow for hunting and practice shooting

This is the second bow I've had. I first learned for 6 months on a cheap take-down bow with an elevated rest. I wanted my second bow to be one-piece, well-crafted, and smooth to draw. The slick stick recurve has been delightful. It took me a few weeks to get used to it's light weight and to shooting off the shelf, but learning how to use this bow has significantly improved my read more archery. I was a bit skeptical to go from a 62" bow to this (which is 58"), but I got used to it, even though my draw is 30." It's a very well made bow. One of the things that made me feel okay about this as an investment is the 30 year warranty. Side-note: I've been extremely happy with the whisper string in terms of how it functions, but I did decide to add two monkey-tail rubber string dampeners to make it even quieter.

Update from my original review

I'm updating my previous posting because in my first I left out a few important things and I've also learned a few. First everything I said in my first review I still stand by and now more. This first review I only shot the slick stick recurve about 20 times really not enough for an honest review. Now I've shot maybe 200 arrows from the bow and I have to say it most assuredly shoots read more were you're looking straight from the box and that's a very important point, I've added a piece of leather to the shelf as one was not provided just the side plate was there, for me this was not a problem as I like to make my own shelf's for my bows. When hunting season comes around the bow is strung from the start to the finish and as a result I'm constantly checking my bows for any stress, the glue lines are as fine as any custom bow I've seen or shot. All this coming from a pretty much mass produced bow. Now I've seen some of the pictures of the slick stick becoming delaminated after only a few months of use and from a bow hunter hunting with a recurve for 50 years I've seen a few bows blow up but this was always attributed to the bow being overdrawn by a person shooting to short a bow. I'm not saying this is what happened to the slick stick recurves that had the problems but the pictures looked exactly like what an overdrawn bow looks like. Now for performance, as I said previously the bow shoots were your looking, not just 3 out ten shots or 6 out of ten but a consistent grouping and with broadheads no less. By the way there's only one way as far as I'm concerned to practice and that's with broadheads especially if your a bowhunter, as for me I haven't shot field points in years! I've shot bows by Bear Damon Howatt and custom bows throughout my bow hunting career and not once did I not have to tinker with brace height and nocking point, not so with the Slick Stick Recuve! Maybe I got lucky for a change but I'm thinking not. GREAT BOW!!!

Beautiful bow

Already had its twin in a slick stick longbow, so needed the recurve version.

Excellent bow

I bought this bow primarily because it looks like the bow from when I started hunting with that 50s 60s look and feel but in actuality my bighorn from 83 was getting a little tough on my shoulders so after looking at a lot of custom bows I ran into this little gem. Let me tell you for the money this bow will go against any custom bow made! Seriously I was awesomely surprised! I read more ordered a right handed #45'@28" 58" nutmeg in color slick stick recurve from 3 rivers archery the best decision I've made in a long time. The bow draws smooth and when an arrow is released there's absolutely no hand shock or vibration and that's with no string silencers! I haven't hunted with this yet but our season starts in one month and I'm hoping for the best. There was only one thing wrong with the bow and that was just cosmetic as there was a white scrape on the bottom phenolic tip and had no effect on the functionality of the bow and Andy from 3 Rivers Archery was excellent and made it right. Great bow Great company!

Buyer Beware, this bow could injure you

I want all buyers to be aware of my experience with Bodnick/Bearpaw. This bow was a 50lb Rh version. After shooting the bow with Goldtip 400 spine arrows and 200 grain field points for less than 100 arrows, this bow delaminated and broke in half! I had some fiberglass splinters in my right arm, but luckily that was all. If I had a broadhead on my arrow, mote than likely I would read more have been seriously injured. It makes me wonder if these de-lamination issues are the reason Bodnick now offers a lifetime warranty on these bows. Back around 2013-2014 they had a large number of bows fail due to what they say was a glue change issue by a supplier. In any event, a warranty does not replace safety, and their warranty will not replace your body. I replaced the bow with a Bear recurve, as I have NEVER in 40 years had a bear bow fail.

UPDATE: 3Rivers customer service is AMAZING!

I wanted to update my last review primarily to let everyone know that 3Rivers customer service is incredible. I had my Slick Stick for over 9 months when it delaminated on me. I sent 3Rivers an email hoping they could at least put me in touch with Bear Paw since Bear paw's website is closed down and I didn't know how to go about getting a replacement from them. 3Rivers FAR exceeded read more my expectations. I sent 3Rivers an email on June 9th. A few emails back and forth and they had a new Slick Stick in my hands on June 17th. I'm not sure I could recommend this particular model of bow, we'll have to see if this one lasts longer than 9 months. What I can say is that its a great shooter, super quiet, and if you want to try it you can do so knowing that 3Rivers stands behind the products they sell 110%.

Amazing While It Lasted but Not durable

A2Hunt&Fish

This is an update to my previous glowing review. I wanted to make sure folks have the whole picture beofre purchasing this bow. Until today I would have given it 5 stars as I LOVED THIS BOW! Today though, it delaminated. I don't have a ton of money and sold a gun to buy this bow. I thought that with Bodnick giving it a 30 year warranty that meant it was durable. I was wrong. I've read more had this bow for only 10 months, no where near 30 years. I tried looking for contact info for Bearpaw USA customer support and found nothing. What good is a 30 eyar warranty if you can't contact the company when you need to use it. I do have an email into 3Rivers and they generally take very good care of me so hopefully they'll be able to help me out but to say I'm disappointed in the durability of this bow would be an extreme understatement.
