This is the same style of bow utilized by the famed Samurai warriors of Feudal Japan. While Samurai are usually recognized for their swordsmanship, proficiency with the Yumi (Japanese Bow) was actually considered a more valuable skill through much of Japan's history. Modern use of the Yumi Bow is known as Kyudo, or "Way of the Bow." Kyudo places as much emphasis on spiritual and moral development as it does accuracy and skill. It is a very serious discipline, drawing from the ancient Samurai traditions. ...read more

Its all good
I have never seen a yumi before. They are pictured in Night Attack at the Sanjo Palace and the 1281 Invasion Scroll. The usual M word for this historical period was flagged as profanity. I have a wearable Japanese armor of a style about 1500-1600. (and two real ones that cannot be worn.) The sode are smaller than the Kamakura period but I have a pair of larger ones and the cords,… read more if done right, will allow you to shoot and then go back in place. The kabuto I have has a lower lame that is shorter and allows you to pull the string back without getting caught on the lower lame. This style was Kublai Khan Invasion period. I did not figure out why that design existed until I got the yumi out of the box. I have original kote and the plate that covers the back of the hand has one finger loop and this allows the draw to be done with the correct finger placement. I would like to see more of an interest in this kind of thing. The arrow rack I also got on my order is worthwhile getting also. My wife usually calls things like this clutter but now she is interested in shooting the yumi. There are lots of videos from Japan showing the draw and the release and also the zen like concentration.
I am not a Kyudo student
I am not a kyudo student and have never shot a yumi before but I have been an archer for 25 years and I am familiar with the thumb draw used by eastern horse archers. I would recommend watching a few videos and reading up on kyudo before attempting firing this bow. The 35# @ 31" yumi functions great and is a beautiful handmade bow.
Happily recieved as expected :)
Beautiful handmade, traditionally crafted bow. Comes with bow string, and cloth case/cover. It took a little longer than expected, 2wks. But the bow arrived in good order. It is JUST right for my height and draw length 106cm. I ordered the 35#. Please be mindful of your dimensions when ordering. I believe this is a great alternative for the impatient and frugal Kyudo (Japanese Archery)… read more practitioner. Ordering direct from Japan would take longer and much more costly. I would give 4-stars...but it was not clear in the product description how long delivery would take and full description of what the consumer is to expect. I would suggest supplying a more robust description. Also, does the manufacturer make heavier yumis? All in all, I am very pleased with the product.
Checked it out at the hq
Mind you I did not get to shoot this yet, but I made my way up to three rivers to check this bow out, John was kind enough to show me the bow and let me hold onto it and look at, this bow is a site to behold, they are made by ledgendary bower Jaap Koppedryer in GA, they are huge, you have to see to belive, yet they are soo light and well balanced. This bow type is used however… read more only in zen archery called kyudo, and are ment to be shot off the thumb, it is not something you hunt with, though one could get it in a much stronger weight, its just something that is not done, like using a holybook as a coaster, something you just dont do and something that dont give said object the dignaty it is supposed to be afforded when used for its rightful purpose.
Good
Was a very good quality bow. I found it to be sluggish in cast
As of now these are all that we offer . We do have thumb rings and several shooting gloves .
Unfortunately I would not recommend in drawing a Yumi bow to 37 inches. This bow is tillered to 31 inches. Yes we do ship internationally all the time that is not an issue for us.

The Yumi bow is shipped directly from the bowyer so i don't know the weight of the bow but if you order through us there will be free shipping on the bow but there may be an over size fee .
I generally recommend 30# for target or recreational shooting.
We do not offer that bow in any other weight.
This bow is weighed at 31" so it will be at 35# at 31"
This bow is 89" he does not offer a longer model.
Yes this yumi bow is constructed in the traditional way.

If you are shooting a true yumi bow and arrows they tend to be slightly longer than common arrow lengths, but you can still shoot your normal arrow from the bow.
Yumi Archery makes these bows.
