To tell you the truth I have not used it yet.
I am anxious to use it,but have not yet.
Be Careful!
When I read that it was made of "long lasting laminated hardwood" I must say it rang a bell I first heard when I was 12 (1959) and ordered a laminated boomerang from a certain now defunct company in Waseca, Minn. (yes, that one). It too was made out of plywood, stained and finished plywood but still, plywood. The block is a bit on the small side with little room to grip with one… read more hand while you feed the arrow shaft with the other. Take care or you will have a quick but not scheduled manicure from the spinning disc sander. Once I mounted it to yet another, larger sheet of plywood it was more stable and worked fine. From an Instagram post from Rose City Archery I saw their tapering device made from rigid copper tubing, I will be making a similar device.
Anything to make things easier
This simple jig helps me to get accurate tapers on wooden shafts with a small step that will allow the pile to come flush to the shaft. Using the pencil sharpener style of tool (not knocking these at all as I use them to get the taper cut in the first place) the rear of the pile always has a small grove just behind where the taper is still visible. This can be filled with adhesive… read more depending on what you use, but with this jig I can smooth down the taper to leave a step sufficent to get a flush fit. Using fine sandpaper on a cork sanding block this can be done by hand rather than use power tools.
An accurate taper
The tapers are accurate, however, the block is small. I added a piece of plywood to the bottom that can be clamped to the sander. You really have to watch your fingers, because they are pretty close to the disc. I recently switched to Douglas Fir from POC and my Tru-Center was chewing them up. This worked great, all of the tapers were true.
So simple a cave man can do it>>>------>
I just used the taoer block for the first time and it's so easy to use and does a fantastic job! For [$] it doesn't get any better>>>>------>
Does the job very well.
Very Good tool for it's use. Square it up against your disc sander and your ready to go. Money well spent for my use.
No, the Arrow Taper Guide block is only for putting the taper for mounting glue-on nocks and points.
Yes, this tool allows for the use of almost any size shaft.
This will work with the Bamboo shafts.
Yes, you will be able to do the nock and point taper of a barrel shaft with this guide block.
