Not what I expected
It was recommended by a friend who said it was a good value. I found the clamp and adjustments less than precise. It took manual pressure and holding the jig clamp by hand. The purpose of a jig is to hold objects with precision better than we can. I messed up so many feathers, I was only able to completed one arrow and had 3 others with messed up fletching.
I would buy this again
I've used more expensive metal jigs but this one is easier to use, holds adjustments well and light enough to not be problematic. Each fletching is perfectly aligned with no surprises. It's plastic but easily cleaned. I've used it for aluminum, carbon target and recreational arrows. The price point makes this a bargain. Other more expensive metal jigs have given me mixed results… read more over my 50 years of fletching. It's a lot neater to use than other pyramid type jigs. After a half dozen other jigs that I've used this one is my go to. Sprint tension on the clamp is to light or to heavy making fast and accurate alignment easy and consistent. If you've fletched before you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Learning curb
Can not tell where first fletch goes does not alaign first fletch with noch properly wich makes odd fletch off
Decent jig, instructions could be better. Broke on 3rd arrow
Overall, a decent jig. It works. It's not the highest quality, you get what you pay for. The magnetic strip on the fletching holder broke off on my 3rd arrow being fletched. Instructions also a bit confusing. It mentioned index fletching up, or out, which I can't make out what this physically means on the jig. Eventually I figured out to keep my nock index ridge pointing into the… read more jig while the jig is set to 3U, and that aligns the index fletching properly.
Very Good Affordable Jig
This is my second fletching jig. The Goat Tuff fletcher I bought elsewhere - FOR MORE MONEY - was flimsy trash. Not so here, this is a STRONG jig, flimsy doesn't live here. Too, it very accurately separates the vanes correctly, unlike, again, Goat Tuff. Sure, its plastic but it heavy strongplastic, robust and solid. I got beautiful SYMMETRICAL helical on my xbow bolts costing… read more me but a few minutes per shaft. I still can't believe affordable this and better than that other brand. Beautiful, just make sure of two things: 1. Make sure magnets are FLAT to each other. 2. Don't bother with Bohning Platinum glue. I went straight to Gorilla Super Glue due to overwhelmingly positive reviews. Heard too much glue fail with the platinum glue. Sorry Bohning, can't win em all!
Great beginner jig
The instructions are very clear and easy to understand. You have to be careful not to get too much excess glue on your fletchings, because it will eventually build up on the edges of the clamp. After scraping the glue off over time it has eroded the edges of the clamp. Also, you have to hold a gentle downward pressure on the arrow shaft as you're applying the clamped fletching to… read more the shaft and hold it gently in place for about 15 seconds before letting go. Then wait about a minute before releasing the fletching from the clamp. This helps ensure a uniform application of each fletching, since the jig allows slight enough movement of the arrow shaft to make the fletching not uniform in their locations on the shaft. This jig is easy to use and easy to get good at using. It's a great beginner jig and is well worth the money.
I would NOT buy this
Jig will work with fletch tape because you can force feathers down on arrow and sticks instantly... cannot use with glue, jig will not hold true
Good
First time I used a fletcbing jig. Thought it would be more price lining up the arrow. The magnetic feather clamp slides around a lot. Have to be very careful to keep the feather lined up.
Works well
This thing does a fine job. Directions could be better but still it gets the job done and done well. I discovered 2 different ways NOT to glue feathers on but after a little adjustment I started turning out arrows that look good. I'll come back and add to this when I see how they fly.
Nice fixture and fun to use.
There's room for improvement but not for a beginner..
The clamps are curved for left wing and right wing. The straight does have the same degree of offset as the LW and RW models. It is the same base for all of the jigs.
Yes it can take 5.5" feathers
I'm afraid they do not list the amount of adjustment. You can adjust both sides of the fletching so I'd be pretty confident to say you'll run out of arrow shaft before you run out of helical adjustment.
Yes, you can use a RW jig with trad vanes.
Yes you could use this jig with all those shafts.
To get a four fletch you would use the disk that has the 4 grooves in it (opposite disk would have two nocks to match with the grooves)
Yes you could with some adjustments but it would be very tight with 4 fletch.
Yes, the straight clamp will work.
Yes, you will be able to use s straight clamp.
Yes, it will work fine.
Yes. If you purchase a separate Bohning straight clamp it will work just fine.
Yes it will work fine on smaller shafts
Cant say, the smallest one i do is 5/16. Maybe an email to bohning might help? Thanks for asking.... DAVE BEHEE
I used it on my 2016 for my aluminum for traditional bow. I did 4 4in flechings at max helical. Not a problem. I really like this tool and think it can do you arrows as well. Make sure you use a sleeve. Glue sticks better than just straight on the arrow.
I fletch arrows from 2219's down to 1820's. You shouldn't have a problem with it. Sent from my Samsung device
The jig is completely adjustable and you should be able to set it up for your needs. You may want a straight clamp. If you have more questions, I would suggest you call in and talk with one of our techs.
Unless the arrows for a compound bow are different than the arrows for a recurve or a longbow, I don't see that fletching the arrow would make any difference. The spine of the arrow might vary depending on the length of draw but the fundamentals of fletching an arrow remain.
