I do NOT recommend this product
Regardless of how carefully I used this tool and regardless of the pressure put on it, I found it impossible to keep the blade from cutting into the arrows surface in the final stage of removing the glue. I've used tools all my life and know what "touch" is when using a cutting tool, but this simply did not work well. A plane EXACTO knife is far superior for removing old fletching… read more and glue. If this works well for others, they have my admiration, but it did not work well for me.
A good tool to have
I've used this so far to removed damaged feathers on graphite shafts and it has worked well, leaving a clean surface that I was able to easily fletch again. So this has been a good tool to have. After removing the fletching with the first pass, I used several light passes with slightly different orientations to get all the adhesive off and leave a smooth surface.
I would buy this product again.
I have aluminum arrows in many sizes dating back to the 1980's and this tool works great!
Can use on wood, if you are careful
I discussed this tool with the "Experts" before buying. The opinion was that there is no safe way to remove fletching from wood arrows. Maybe a solvent would work but then you would have to reseal and repaint. Work slowly and carefully and remove the residue with fine sandpaper or mild abrasive. As far as carbon and aluminum are concerned , it zips the fletching and adhesive… read more right off
Good product
works good easy to use
This thing works great
I am new to repairing archery equipment and this product had great reviews so I decided to try it. I like that the blade and the handle run along the arrow shaft to help you guide it and keep from cutting the shaft too deeply as you might with a knife. It is a great quality product and so easy to use. It's more expensive than the strippers you find at some of the stores, but well… read more worth the extra money in quality.
Stripper works fine, quick and easy.
Very sturdy and easy to use. Surprisingly smooth in removing old adhesives.
Feather Stripper
Strips the old feathers right off. A great product. I will be ordering more blades in the future.
Nice Tool
I've only been using this a short time, but it appears well made and performs perfectly. The odds of damaging a shaft while removing feathers should be very low with this tool. I like that the angle of the blade is automatically held at the perfect value by the guide that slides on the shaft. Also, the guide seems designed to not damage the shaft. Bottom line, in my opinion - you… read more can work faster, get a better result and have lower risk of injury from a damaged shaft breaking while shooting.
The little one that could
I use this to strip off damaged plastic fletchings. Some that had been 'touched up at the range' with a bit of extra glue to keep them on a bit longer when they started to pull off the shaft of my carbon arrows. So extra glue or factory it strips them off. The ones with extra glue took a bit of work, it was rock hard. No not super glue, regular fletching glue. I did feel I… read more might skip it off the shaft on those and jab my other hand... So it gets the tough stuff off and didn't ruin my arrow. A few more short passes and the rest of everything was gone. I'm new to archery and want to learn to do stuff myself, vs. taking it to the near by place. So it's nice to find a product that every archer will at some point need, that is a good product to have in the archers tool box. That said, I don't care for the easily ripped/torn cover/sleeve thing it came with to cover the blade. It was torn the second I pulled the stripper out. Blades and that material don't belong together! It will do for now. If you loose it make one out of something! Overall it's a good little tool, and unlike ones on an archers muliti tool, you can replace, or sharpen the blades which is a bonus.
It will bring the wrap up with the feather as well. You will still need to remove the wrap that is not under the feather. I like to run hot water over the wrap and peel it off in one piece.
The model we have in stock is the full size version.
Yes, it should work on vanes as well.
It strips fletching and vanes very well from my aluminum arrows and bolts. Have never used it on carbon.
You can use it for wood you just have to be really careful you don't cut into the shaft its self.
I have only used it on aluminum arrows, so I really cannot answer from experience. My thought is that it would be a risky proposition as the cutting blade is very sharp and would likely dig into the shafts,,,,, hope this helped.
It can, but it is more designed to be used on carbon and aluminum shafts.
I believe so if due care is taken using consistent pressure and movement with the blade on the shaft. It could be easy to use too much force at the beginning which may result in gouging the shaft.
Removes feathers quickly and cleanly from aluminum, glass, or carbon arrows.
it works good on all shafts. in my opinion it fits aluminum shafts best. i would advise ordering extra blade it, because it only comes with one.
I have used it a lot on my carbons, and it works just as easily as it does on alloy.
This comes with one blade but it has two cutting ends.
