A good tool.
Seems to do the job. O rings are a little difficult to keep in place, but otherwise a solid tool.
I would buy this product.
This tool easily tapers both nock end and point. I was very happy with this product.
Good tool
This is a good tool, well designed, and precise. Be aware, if you dip, paint or lacquer your shafts, it will increase shaft diameter to the point where fitting the shaft in the guide collar is difficult, if not impossible. I had to order three additional collars, and "ream" them out (using emery paper) to fit arrows which were cap dipped
Excellent quality made product!
Simple and easy to use with superb results to affix points and nocks, with perfect bevels!
I would buy this item again.
Made a hard to replace damaged arrow usable again
Good product, works well and is easy on the wallet.
Didn't realize that it did tapers for nocks too. This was a pleasant surprise. I like having both functions in one tool.
Excellent quality, but some gotchas...
Excellent quality fit, finish and material. It created very nice and accurate cuts. But...there's a couple of difficult areas... 1. There was no adjustable stop device to limit how much length in the taper you can do. If you kept pushing, it would sharpen your arrow to a point, like a pencil. Most of my points/adapters were shallow, so I needed short tapers … read more and this was very difficult to see with the shavings in the way and very difficult to create a constant size taper on a new batch of arrows. This issue forced me to constantly recut and redo several arrows so the tapers and length matched. < sigh> This was a real PITA. 2. A little more room would be appreciated in the dies - 1/32'd or 1/64th to accommodate finishes on the arrow shaft. 3. It was difficult to get a good grip because the tool is smooth and of small diameter. A knurled (like a good quality mag-lite flashlight) finish would help greatly, or have flutes cut into it lengthwise to allow one to torque it.
Tru taper
best taper tool I've ever seen or used. no adjustments or guesstaments required. Makes an excellent clean accurate taper at the correct length for either nock or point.
Hopefully last taper tool I will ever need
After struggling with version 1 for years, I finally decided to give version 2 a try. It is night and day. Version 2 works perfectly without any adjustments to make it work. Just select the correct collet size, and you are ready to taper.
I like the tool well built and has all the sizes included.
I build my own wood arrows. For the money it's a good tool.
I would say a quarter of an inch for a minimum.
You can do it either way, if the finish is too thick it may not fit in the guide well though.
Unfortunately we no longer have the replacement blades for the old style of tool.
If you install Fore Shaft Blanks (Item #6640-2) and Arrow Nock Wood Blanks (Item #6640-1) in your bamboo shafts then you will be able to put on a regular glue on point and nock. This will not work on the bare bamboo shaft it will splinter it.
actually i use it on bare bamboo shafts and it works great
That is 7/8 long.
This comes with the Allen wrenchs to put the blades in. With the new design of this tool there are no adjustments needed.
This tool will not work for a 7/16 shaft. The tolerances on the guides are tight enough that it will not fit. I do not know of any taper tools that would work besides a wood chuck or something similar.
Yes, this will taper the hickory. It may dull faster than normal though.
The original screws should work in the new version. But the blades and collars are not interchangeable.
